Free Trade can be very profitable for US corporations. Of course, there is a huge downside to Free Trade. Free Trade forces the American workers to compete directly with the workers in low-wage foreign countries such as China.. The workers in many of these third-world countries make as little as $60-100 or less per month. These arguments in favour of free trade are lain out by Adam Smith, a Scottish economist, in “The Wealth of Nations”, his magnum opus published in 1776.
